In a week where the GOP is losing both Alberto Gonzales and Tony Snow to resignation, the Democrats had a banner week. Former New Hampshire Governor Jean Shaheen announced her intention to oppose Republican Senator John Sununu. Former Virginia Governor Mark “Now You See Why I Didn’t Run for President” Warner announced his intent to run for the senate seat John Warner (no relation) is leaving. Shaheen lost a very close race to Sununu in 2002, when voters in traditionally Republican New Hampshire were largely caught in the national post-Sept. 11 wave. And former Nebraska Governor Bob Kerrey may seek Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel’s seat in 2008. Add the fact that the Grand Old Party is losing veteran Senator Larry Craig, and congressional voting and Supreme Court approvals will be affected for some time.
