So Governor Mike Huckabee says “Merry Christmas” in his holiday ad, wears a red sweater, invokes Jesus, and the image of a cross appears behind him:

And…? The man is a Christian (an ordained one at that)- when last we checked, Christians (though not all “keep” the Dec. 25 commercialized version) celebrate Christian. They were red to office “Christmas” parties (what your job now calls holiday parties to avoid offending or excluding non-practicioners, and adherents of other faiths). They use Jesus’ name. Some people are reacting as if the man did an “Imus” or a Dog the Bounty Hunter. We respect people’s religious freedom here at PC, and while we’re against those who would impose their beliefs in a judgemental manner, or think less an atheist or agnostic bound for damnation, we’d fight for their right to disagree. The White House mails out a Christmas card- the president and his immediate family are Christians. Unlike certain presidential candidates, Huckabee is being himself.
About the subliminal cross/bookshelf controversy. ’tis better to drop subliminal messages about The Baby Jesus than ones about Barack Obama being a Muslim and a dope dealer.
Lighten up, people.
