Foreclosures spreading like brushfire. Bank failures. A flawed grounds for occupation of Iraq. High unemployment. A populist outdoorsy hockey mom in lipstick and stilettos stumping for the veepship. In a year of what is apparently an issues election, when even veteran Southern pols such as Mitch McConnell and Libby Dole are in the fights of their respective political lives, if Barack Obama, despite almost every poll ascribing 260 electoral votes (270 are needed for victory) at this writing, and more than half a dozen swing and Bush 2004 states well within his grasp, loses on November 4, will his color be the cause?
