The December I Was In An Opera

When I was 11, I played dead. For Christmas present money. The Washington National Opera could only afford to put on one performance that season- Frederic Delius’ American premiere of “Koanga”. In the slave romance at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, my job was to lay still- because I was a corpse.
