Sir or Madam,
There is nothing more exciting to a historian than the research stage of a project, be it a book, a paper, or in my case a documentary film. Every day is full of the potential to find new sources of information, texts, libraries, scholars, facts, and archival papers. I am in that phase of the work on “Show People” (see link). It’s like being a few days pregnant- when one is knowing but not yet showing. I appreciate any assistance you can lend during this initial effort. Early funding facilitates travel for interviews or out-of-town archives and collections, acquisition of the rights to use images and music, purchase of supplies, pre-production, and compensation of camera crew. This support is of prime importance while waiting for sources such as arts and humanities councils to respond, and indepedent film grant decisions to be made.
Throughout the project, there will be opportunities to share in the fun and development- screenings of the trailer, presentations on the topic, fundraisers, perhaps an auction. Those involved early on will be kept abreast of how the “baby” is coming along. Should you be able to contribute prior to the birth, the proud daddy will be ever grateful.
We will be filming interviews for our trailer in New York City the week of July 10.
Cordially,
Bijan C. Bayne
