In Wake of Obama Victory, Newspapers Fly Off Shelves

In the Brookland CVS in N.E. Washington, D.C., the line after 6 p.m. was from the front of the store to the pharmacy in the rear, with some sitting down waiting for the “Washington Post” truck to arrive.

At The News Stand downtown on Connecticut and K Street around the same time, there was a line outside the store and around the corner a few doors down, and inside the store, the shelves were stacked not with the “Miami Herald”, “Financial Times”, “Boston Globe”, “Daily Times of London”, or the European or Italian dailies- but photocopies of their covers- selling for $3.50-$5.00 a pop.
