Amy Mitchell, Director, Pew Research Project for Excellence in Journalism
Mitchell manages all aspects of the annual project, State of the Media, including the design, analysis and writing the project’s in-depth research reports. Prior to joining PEJ, Mitchell was a congressional research associate at the American Enterprise Institute where she researched public policy and the relationship of the press, the public and government.
The State of the News Media 2013 is the tenth edition of the annual report on the status of American journalism. The study contains special reports on how news consumers view the financial struggles of the industry and how the local, cable and network TV news landscape has changed in recent years. It also includes analysis of the main sectors of the news media and an essay on digital developments.

Bijan C. Bayne, Freelance Writer
Bayne, based in Washington, D.C., has written for travel publications such as AAA Horizons, JustLuxe, Arrington’s Inn Traveler, Hotel Executive (where he was an editorial board member) and Ohio Magazine among others. He is also a founding member of the tourism consulting cooperative, The Travel Educators.
Kate Purcell, National Casting Director
Based in Los Angeles, Purcell works as an independent producer/casting director on national TV shows and for cable networks. Most recently, she served as a producer for Food Network, Minute to Win It and The Bachelorette. She is currently casting in Cincinnati for the next series of Biggest Loser.
Dan Sewell, Correspondent, Associated Press
Sewell has served as an Associated Press Correspondent for the past seven years where hereports, writes and supervises news and enterprise coverage in Cincinnati and Dayton and other southwest Ohio areas.

Sheila Gray, Anchor, Fox19 Morning News
Gray has been co-anchor on Fox19 Morning News since 1999 where she begins her day at 2:30 a.m. to share the day’s news. Fox19 is on the air for seven hours in the morning, Monday through Friday and for two hours in the morning on the weekends.
Steve Hirschberg, reporter, WNKU-FM
Hirschberg has been a public radio news reporter in the Cincinnati area for three decades. He covers breaking news, writes WNKU’s local afternoon newscasts and produces feature-length interviews. Hirschberg also serves as the station’s News Assignment Editor managing the station’s new content that reaches to Dayton, mid-Kentucky and West Virginia.
Carolyn Washburn, vice president & editor, The Cincinnati Enquirer
Washburn was appointed as the first female editor at The Cincinnati Enquirer two years ago. Since her appointment, she has led the transformation of the newspaper and its digital products to broaden its regional reach.
